First Peoples Principles of Learning

Within my education as a future educator in B.C. there has been special emphasis placed on embracing and applying the First Peoples Principles of Learning to our practice with intention and awareness. This focus feels to me like a long awaited step in the direction of truth and reconciliation. The First Peoples Principles of Learning have been created to guide a colonized worldview (that has long existed in the dominant education system) toward embracing and acknowledging all ways of knowing and being. Educators and administrators alike should continue to study these principles and thoughtfully consider how in practice they will allow students and adults alike to extend in the core curricular competencies and beyond.
