Educational Course Work
How to safely solo lift a canoe! An instructional video and glimpse of teaching techniques.
This video was created in 2012 for a course in my diploma program at Sault College in Ontario.
While this video may not look like much of a link to the B.C. Curriculum or education at first glance, I do believe it is a strong demonstration of important teaching techniques. Often, people who have already acquired and utilized a skill for a long time have great difficulty breaking the skill down into digestible pieces for new learners. I feel that this is a skill of mine that has gotten stronger and more dynamic over the years. It requires awareness and empathy to travel back to a time when you stood in similar shoes to your pupil. Remembering the experience of being new at something and embracing that as you move forward with instruction is a skill that I believe all educators, outdoors or in, should practice and apply often.
Thank you for engaging with my academic coursework. For more examples of my experiences, please explore the navigation bar at the top of the page.
